Projects 11/9/18

in science class we learned about the nitrogen cycle, how it works is a plant called legumes have nitrogen fixing bacteria (NFB)

Image result for grasslands animalsand turns nitrogen into nitrates what the plants can use. and then we eat the plants. We also took a test this week about the water cycle, the nitrogen cycle and atoms and then on Thursday we did not get science 🙁 because we went to interlochen to see a percussion performance (something that you scratch strike or rub) and it was very cool especially when they used
car parts as instruments and the water gong was cool but it was to loud for me. Then at the end of the week we picked out differenthabitats for a biome project-i got grasslands.

Science! 11/1/18

In science class we talked about the water cycle and how it works. In the picture it shows precipitation that causes runoff Image result for water cyclewhich then evaporates into the clouds and the transpiration is… say it rains the the water that the plant does not soak up the plant sweats so the water comes out of its pours then goes up into the clouds. Also we played a food web game that Josie made new cards to and how you play that is everyone gets five cards each and they have animals on them and you put them in the order that the sheet says to put them in and you take turns drawing cards and sometimes you get a picture card and sometimes you get a word card that says something like take a producer from someones food web and you keep playing until you are out of cards.

10/18 Wolves

In science class we talked about how wolves changed rivers. It all started when people thought that wolves were bad and they did no good.

But then yellowstone reintroduced wolves and when they did the wolves killed a few deer but then the deer started to avoid that part of the valley and Yellowstone started to regenerate and after that the song birds started to come and the beavers came back Image result for wolvesbecause they like to eat trees, and the beavers built dams so more and more wildlife came. And the wolves killed coyotes so the number of rabbits and mice went up so that meant more hawks. Crows and eagles came down to feed on the dead animal that the wolves left and so did the bears so the bear population went up also because there were more berries on the trees. And most importantly the wolves changed rivers because there was less erosion because the roots stabilised the dirt and the there was no more dirt erosion because the vegetation stabilised it.

And that is how wolves changed rivers.

How many wolves were left in yellowstone?

What is a turtles shell made of?

How many elephants are left in the world?

Parachuting Cats

This week in science we learned about parachuting cats in borneo. Why were they Related imageparachuting cats in borneo? If you want to know heres the story, so there was a disease called malaria going around from types of mosquitos. They had to do something about it so they sprayed pesticide to get rid of the mosquitos. The pesticide worked that was good but the bad thing about it was that peoples roofs were falling down on top of there heads because the pesticide was also killing a type of wasp that ate the thatch eating caterpillars. Also it killed a type of bug that geckos eat and then the cats would eat the geckos, so… they had to parachute live cats in borneo.

What is the main animal that has become very overpopulated?

What eats tent caterpillars?

are emerald ashore numbers going down?

9/26/18 Science!

This week in science we did different things the first day we learned about the mimicking octopus and what types of animals it mimics like it mimics the poisonous flat fish and if its getting attacked then it puts its six arms down a hole to look like a poisonous sea snake that has bands along its body. It also mimics the poisonous lion fish. we also talked about adaptation and Harper found a baby snapping turtle and we talked about its adaptations like how it uses its shell to hide and it has sharp claw and sharp teeth, and they have webbed feet to help them swim.

Later in the week we each had to make a slide about what we were assigned and here it is.

9/24/18 Science week

At the beginning of the week we learned about atoms and how they can be transferred  to different organisms. For example a fox eats off a dead cardinal that fox has that cardinals atoms , then when a fox goes to eat some berries the fox breathes on the other berries and gives the cardinals atoms to the berries. Then a human comes along and picks the berries that has cardinal atoms on them  and eats those berries now that human has the cardinals atoms. At the end of the week we went to Loc. I was not there the whole time but we did the rock wall then we played gaga ball, and had dinner. After dinner we went to the sand dunes and played some games up there.

9/16/18 Dam it

Yesterday we played a game called dam it. We started out by Shane putting the hose by the water. Then we built little houses and other buildings and Shane turned on the water and we could not touch anything for three minutes, it was so tempting to touch the blocks and move them around. Then after those long… 3 minutes we finally got to move sand and blocks around. We made a main river down to the water and I learned why people fight over water because Josie was also trying to make another river down to the water and she was taking our water so we had to make a solution about that. Something that I learned is that where the sand is thinner the water flows faster, also that fast flowing water can make dams very easily. One thing that Shane told us is that farmers dig very deep pits and put pig poop in them and it makes this very gross pig slime, and farmers are trying to move the pig slime because hurricane Florence will blow it everywhere and it will get all over buildings and the farmers would get charged fines.

Rivers cause a lot of erosion because water can move sand and dirt around easily. I learned that the United states is taking water from the Colorado river and it is starting to dry up before it evan gets to Mexico, because of theUnited states.
